Health IT and Consumer Behavior

A great article discussing the imminent changes in healthcare. It is interesting to compare it to the discussion in a book I'm currently reading, Dreamland by Sam Quinones, that reviews the history of opiate and heroine addiction in America. One of the root causes discussed is the evolution of healthcare's view on pain management. The stand-out point in this TechCrunch article is:

"...health care delivery systems account for only about 10-20 percent of health outcomes. The guidelines then promote increasing that percentage by using HIT to gain additional control of information about individuals’ health and, ultimately, patients themselves."

The finer point on a patient's personal responsibility as it relates to care, pain management and every day health decisions will be a critical success factor to enable these changes.
